Maison

Monte Verde

This residence is designed as a weekend retreat for a young family from the bay area. It is inspired by many of the what we consider to be the defining elements of Carmel’s cottage architecture- simple architectural forms, natural material palettes and the occasional quirky detail. The design is a direct response to its difficult lot with several protected oak trees and a fair amount of cross slope. Its simple gables step down with the slope of the land, tying it more closely with its site and allowing it to steal light from the disproportionate masses of its neighbors to the north and the south.
